Shelter In Place: Week 1 Check-In | 第一週自主隔離

Happy 3rd Wedding Anniversary! Originally we had planned a getaway to Ishigaki Island, but due to COVID-19, we were issued restriction of movement by UN’s command, we cancelled all of our plans and stayed at home. Disappointed of course, but I’m rather calm, and decided to use all this stay at home time to work on my shelter-in-place to-do list! God, I love making to-do lists.

Dalgona Coffee | 400

Dalgona coffee is everywhere! We need to pick a perfect day to make this insta coffee! Get the cheapest instant coffee in Commisary (hey, don’t be a coffee snob), mix with sugar and hot water. Stir it for 400 times, or use hand mixer for faster result. Voila!

Jjapaguri |

After preparing Jjapaguri, UN and I wonder how the maid in Parasite cooked it under 8 minutes while fighting and cleaning up at the same time. We kept laughing just thinking about that scene in the movie.

Sunflower Field |

Before the restriction of movement order came down, my friend L and I went to visit a local sunflower field. To know Okinawa means navigating its small alleys well, and you will be surprised by what lies hidden within. Don’t need to go all the way to Miyagi Island to look for sunflowers, you can find these off the side of the street.

Took me exactly three days to adjust to this new rhythm of life. The hardest thing is social distancing myself from the fridge. Occasionally I do my morning run. I love saying “ohaiyo” to the old lady that lives across the street. On the way back I would sometimes run into the old couple that live in our building taking their daily walk. Right now in Okinawa, only military and SOFA status personnel are required to remain shelter-in-place. UN goes into clinic every other day. Most restaurants now offer takeout service. Base tightened restrictions. I’ll utilize the shelter-in-place time to work on more posts. Stay tuned for my Instagram updates featuring many #throwback pics. Stay safe and healthy everyone!
